This (3 mins) video, produced with great effort by the Birmingham Chinatown Business Association, ensuring the accuracy of the information. The video explains the Southside Access Strategy, which aims to make the area better and safer. It also outlines how the strategy will affect Chinatown businesses. The new plan proposes measures such as restricting vehicle access, expanding existing shared public spaces, enlarging pedestrian and cycling zones, and modifying the current unloading zone locations.
 
We believe that all the changes proposed by the strategy are more harmful than beneficial; they are neither better nor safer. The strategy will severely impact and reduce foot traffic in Chinatown, create logistical difficulties, increase costs, and significantly affect safety and business operations.
 
We also question the lack of transparency and merchant involvement in the strategy, as well as the insufficient data provided to support it, which fails to address post-pandemic and operating cost crises.
 
We believe that a serious strategy needs to address real issues, balance the needs of all stakeholders, and not sacrifice the hard work and efforts of Chinatown businesses. BCTBA calls on everyone to come forward with suggestions
